Place Value Pirates

                                      How arty can maths be?

                                         We Aargh learning about place value.       

Today we were lerning about place value, along with doing maths we also did a bit of art! Considering we did art we learned a lot about place value. All of us did examples on the whiteboards making sure all the class knew how to do place value.

To start with we drew a picture of a pirate, afterwards we coloured them in. Then finally we made a big number like 7,902,150 and then we had to write it in words.

Today we were working on place value.
We made pirates and coloured them in.
We had to make up numbers that were in the millions and decorate them with the numbers.
We had numbers on the pirate's hat, beard and his mouth.

In class we have been learning about some Scottish Sights and have made pictures of the Stirling Castle.  In co-operative groups we have been making guides in them we have been writimg about some places like the Grahams, The Munros, the Inner Hebrides and the Outer Hebrides.

We have been looking at the Atlases and looking at The Scottish Map. We also were looking at the grid on the Scottish map and working in pairs to find the places we were given for example: Edinburgh,Stirling, The Pentlands, North West Highland and more. Also we have been looking at the
tempratures of Scotland and if the UK is bigger than New Zealand.

We have been drawing different landscapes like The Stirling Castle landscape and drawing different landscapes that we chose from a Scottish book.

Today we were learnig about place value and we made a display by drawing pirates. We drew pirates and put numbers on them eg: 9,999,999 or 9,000,000 + 900,000 + 90,000 + 9,000 + 900 + 90 + 9 = 9,999,999 or nine million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine then we stuck it up on our wall to make our display.
