Titanic Class Museum

We really enjoyed preparing for our class showcase of The Titanic. We had so much fun sharing our knowledge with all of our visitors. Thanks to everyone who came along to see us!

                                       Athletics Day!   

Today was  Athletics day everyone was excited Mrs Finn was taking us.We went on the bus.The Athletics was at Meadowbank in hall 1.We had to do high knees and forward roles for the warm up.

I was in a group with:Jerry,Finlay,Sipun and three

Meadowbank Athletics

We went to meadow bank to get a taster for athletics.There were students for Edinburgh College there to help us and tell us what to do. We were the first school there so we did a warm up while we were waiting for the 2 other schools. We got split into girls and boys. We started with relay races and had to go through obstacles and jump over hurdles. We did quite a few races and we came 1st in 2 of them. In my group I had Jude, Alecia and Keira. When we had finished the races we went to the feild events and the boys went to running.

We started at chest push which was the hardest one. You had to sit on a bench,lean back and throw the ball as far as you could. I got 3.25m. We moved to speed bounce which was jumping over a hurdle side to side. We had 20 seconds and got 33 jumps. My favourite was the standing triple jump. You had to hop on your strongest leg change foot and jump. I got 5.08m. There was so much to do it was really fun! There were students who wanted to teach athletics there to help us.

Biography of Lady Catherine Hikemanshul.

My passanger is called Lady Catherine Hikemanshul. She is a bright lady that enjoys playing the flute as well as the saxaphone. Catherine plays golf and tennis. She likes spending time cooking with her husband and chrildren. Her husband is called Sir George Hikemanshul. Catherine has ten trunks with her 3 trunks are full of beautiful hats and scarfs , two trunks with gloves, two trunks with clothing for during the day and night, one trunk with shoes and two trunks with bags and jewellary. Catherine works at a jewellary making business. She is one of the richest people in the world.

The Titanic

THE TITANIC

This term we have been learning about The Titanic. Our first group task was to create a huge replica of the ship (which you can see above). Each group had been given a section of the ship they had to work on to together.

Keira, "We had to draw and paint the bottom of the ships hull and finish it off with red. I enjoyed the painting part the most!"

Finn, "We designed the funnels on small pieces of paper first. Then we cut bigger piecesof paper and started to paint them.  After that we worked on the smoke using pencil and charcoal. Finally we stuck it on to the boat and put it all together. I think our group worked very well and even when we ran into some problems we were able to fix them together."

Jerry, "We worked on the windows and the decking. There were quite a lot of windows so it took quite a while to finish. I helped Jude and Sipun with the balconys.  There was quite a lot of painting to do and it was quite hard to keep it neat.  Our group worked together well because everyone helped each other and everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing."

Emily, "I thought our group worked well because we agreed on what we were going to do. We didn't just go ahead without asking each other. We did have some disagreements but we ended up sorting it out in the end and we ended up working really well together."


As the groups were working on building the ship they were also using an interactive timeline in order to learn more about the actual building of the ship. How is the EU relevant to you?

We are really enjoyed learning about the EU, especially how it helps us. The EU makes laws to make sure that each country provides clean, safe water for its citizens. In class, we did a Water Filtration experiement. We made a filter bed using sand, gravel and stone and filtered muddy water to make it clean.

The EU also debates important issues in the European Parliament. We had our own debate on 'Age restrictions on books'. There were four people For and four people Against the motion. The Against team won.

Top of the mornin' to ya!

P6 had a great green St. Patrick's Day. First, when we came into the classroom, we listened to Irish music. Then, we made our own four-leaf clovers. Afterwards, we learned about St. Patrick himself. Did you know that St. Patrick got rid of all the snakes in Ireland? Of course, this is just a myth. Lastly, we had a quiz about what we learned. We all really enjoyed St. Patrick's Day and look forward to having it next year.

Science - Bouyancy Experiements

Last week we learned about buoyancy and had to make a shape out of playdough and use a pebble to float together. For homework, we also made a boat that could carry cargo and tested them with Miss Finn. We also learned about a man called Archimedes who went into a bath, which overflowed and ran down the road shouting 'Eureka'.

Book Week - Reading has never been so much fun!

Books are amazing. We have a Book Week every year. This year, we decorated our door with a very arty design and gave our own twist to the sensational book cover to War Horse.War Horse is an amazing book, full of excitement and sorrow.

As a treat, we dressed up as our favourite book characters for our Book Character Assembly. Each class paraded around the hall to show off their creative designs and can't wait til next year!

Each class won a fantastic prize for our creative efforts. We not have a whopping £20 to spend on books for our class. Hooray!

P6 and P2 join forces for P.E.

For 3 weeks of P.E., we have joined forces with P2 to organise our own special Commonwealth Games. We were split into even groups and the two classes really bonded well. First, all of the six team came up with names which were:

1. The Golden Winners
2. The Black Belt Champions
3. The Blue Bunnies
4. The Football Cookies
5. The Wild West Football Club
6. The Super Champions

Also, we came u with a team dance to the song 'Happy' by Pharrel Williams. Finally, the day of the Games arrived. Everybody was really excited. In the end, everybody was a winner. It was a great experience to share with P2.

John Muir Award

Nature is not something someone would think of getting an award for. But, P6 is doing just that by working to achieve the John Muir Award. We've already made bug hotels, planted trees, and walked to the Water of Leith. All to help the world to be a better place. Please help P6 make the world a better place. We have different challenges to complete to win the award. They are:

Working hard all the way!

This week we have been working hard on many projects including our assembly on Equality. These are the highlights of our week:

We did our brilliant Scottish paintings inspired by Lichtenstein (a pop artist in the 1960s). We did a practice for our poetry recital for Burns day. Amazingly, most of us have learnt it even though we were only given it a week ago!

Our class is now working on our bridge designs .We have been watching videos about bridge design and types of bridges, but we are still working on our designs.

Paper Bridge Challenge

In maths we have been learning about time and fractions. We had to tell every thing we know about time and fractions. Surprisingly we know know quite alot!

We have also learnt some Spanish in class. We even do a Spansh register! Also we know how to line up in Spanish.

It's been a jammed-packed week and we've all worked really hard.  Luckily, we managed to pull off our Assembly with real professionalism.
