Primary 6 Greek Museum

We had a wonderful afternoon on Thursday 27th November, when we shared our learning about the Ancient Greeks with our friends and families. In addition to displaying our research, we showed writng we had done in the style of myths; pottery and pictures we had made inspired by Greek art; games and activities we had created to entertain our guests and test their skills. We even had some Greek olives and feta cheese for people to try!

ANOTHER TREE WE MADE

For the past few weeks we have been working on our JASS folders. We have been working on the adventure section improving on our sensory and tracking skills.We have went to the Water of Leith and Redhall Gardens doing different activities for our JASS folder . We have played some games which we all enjoyed, they were called Bats and moths,protect the tree and the trust game.

With air dry clay we made silly faces on the trees with our line partner it was so jolly.Once we finished our faces on the trees we went round looking at everyones tree faces and everyone did a little show and tell.We decided to keep our faces on the trees for people walking past.Another thing we did was make journey sticks that the Native Americans used for tracking.The games that we played everyone in the class enjoyed ,the game  most  people liked was bats and moths because it was a exciting.The next game we played was find the treasure that game was really good fun.  We had to make a path for another group to find and you would find the path which would lead you to a treasure.The next game was called find the hidden objects that was when Mrs.Van Tuyl would hide some objects that don't belong in the forest and we had to spot them.  Altogether there were twenty objects which we found.  Once we got back to school we were very tired but we hope to being doing it again soon.

OUR FORT BUILD

  On Thursday 26th March 2015 Mrs.Vantuyl took us to a session of loose materials, all of us loved it.
 
We used palets, tyres, ropes, construction cones, a white box, an army camo sheet, wooden squares, sticks, pipes, wooden plates, cable holders and a little orange boat.
 
Before we played with the loose materials we already thought of what we were going to make.
We worked amazingly as a team and it also was really fun. One of the good parts were we all had a part to do. Disappointingly we had to take it down but next week we can make something else like a train or maybe a car or even a den hut in the shape of a house.We said that next week we would team up with the girls so we could make something way bigger. 
 
 Mrs.Vantuyl made up some rules the rules were that we had to carry a pallet with a partner from ur group so it wouldnt hit someone and also you had to drag sticks along the ground not high cause it could hit someone you had to role the tyers along the ground and when you put them down so they didnt roll and hit someone.

 When Mrs.Vantuyl gave the wolf call we had to tidy up but our fort was hard to take down because we had so much rope that made it so stable it was near impossible to take down.

On the 26th of March every class went to explore the loose play materials.  These are some of the things that was there tyres, pallets, ropes, parachutes, acorns, half cut metal tubes, baskets and boxes. When it came to P6's turn we all got told some rules about loose play materials but we all had so much fun.

 Me and my partner used half cut metal poles, parachutes, tyres, rope , baskets

and boxes and acorns and pallets. When we eventually finished we all got a photo in our den. It was an amazing experence to get a choice to make our own den everyone had a great den when they had finshed.

When we get set up for loose play materials everyone in the school will be very excited to play with them.  All the loose materials will be in the p1 and p2 playground.                          WHAT WE WOULD LIKE MORE OFF more pallets, parachutes,boxes and baskets. These are some of the dens and creations.

On Thursday, this week, we were building forts with loose materials.This pictures shows how we were making our den.

Here is what we were using: wooden pallets, tyres, ropes, cones, cable holders, tubs, wooden discs, camouflage covering and a small orange boat not to mention some pegs.                                                               

Rules

1. No carrying cable holders and tyres just role them.

 

2. Carry the pallets in pairs.

3. When carrying sticks drag them or carry them in pairs, no carrying them by yourself or swinging them.

4. No throwing them in working area.

5. No wrapping rope round your arm or it will cause pain.

6. No covering people with the covers because it could cause suffecation

 

Team Work

 Our level of teamwork was phenominal because we got our parts and didn't argue a single bit. So our den turned out really well but the others were very fandabydosy!

Without Mrs Van Tuyl and her helper we wouldn't have had so much fun and we would never have learnt what we could make with loose material.



Having Fun In The Sun With Loose Materials by Alecia, Emma and Jude

Thursday 26th of March

Mrs Van Tuyl introduced Loose Materials for the first time in St.Cuthberts for the whole school.  Each class got half an hour each to make something in a group that they chose.We had to be creative using tyres, pallets, boxes, wood, sticks, ropes, water proof covers and many more things. You can make many things using loose materials such as; an assualt course, dens, forts, hop scotch and play games.  In our group we made a den working together as a team and using our co-operative skills.

In other groups they made other things such as cars and this is one of them.

At the end you had to show if you wanted you're thumbs up,middle or down to show how much you had fun playing with the loose materials and in our class everybody had their thumbs up.

We had lots of fun playing with the loose materials and we can't wait to permantly have them in our playground and see what we can build together in the future!

 

Loose Play by Ellie, Baylee and Sophie.

On Thursday we had Mrs Van Tuyl take us for a session for loose play. We went for 30 minutes and three of us built a car. We thought we worked as a team and hope we could build the same thing again.  We used tyres, pallets,basket, wood, styrofoam, boxes and many more things .

 

 We thought our car was very phenomenal and we were very proud of our work.  Mrs Van Tuly was a  great helper to us and she was very happy about our work.we also had a helper that had alot of ideas for us to build. They had a few rules that we had to follow a few of them were roll tyres, have a partner to carry heavy things and dont throw anything. The best rule of all was to have fun.
